During my tenure with the Aquarium of the Pacific, I worked with a diverse team including education, development, and conservation departments. Working with all departments and understanding the organization's goals, rather than solely goals within my department, was key to my success and the success of the Aquarium. In my tenure, I developed a culture of ongoing professional learning and a culture of reflection at all levels of our department. Through my leadership, all staff sought ongoing self-improvement and were outcomes-focused. I have a philosophy of investing in people, helping them to achieve their best, and through this, the education team at the Aquarium of the Pacific grew flexible and responsive. More recently, I led community-based conservation engagement efforts both locally and abroad. In my work with small cetacean conservation, I collaborated with marine mammal conservation experts around the world to develop an integrated conservation planning approach that seeks both in situ and ex-situ conservation, in addition to building capacity and common ground for stakeholder communities.
