I began my career as a credentialed teacher in California. After a few years, I decided I wanted to combine my undergrad degree Cultural Anthropology with my love of teaching and moved to Philly to pursue a Masters degree from University of the Arts. I gained work experience at a historic home, an outsider artist space, and worked in conservation education at the Philadelphia Zoo. These experiences led me to my time at a maritime museum where I progressed from a front desk public education employee to the director of Education. During my time at there, I managed a summer camp, school programs, docent tours, and an innovative high school program that offered paid experiences for Philadelphia youth to work and learn about watershed science and conservation - we even raised mussels as part of a program to release them into the wild and improve water quality of the river.
