Dr. Lawson is a museum leader, curator, and educator. She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in the history art, specializing in art of the United States. She has been responsible for museum collections encompassing painting, sculpture, prints and photographs, folk art, decorative arts, archeological artifacts, historical objects and archival material. She has considerable experience working with boards of directors and advisory councils; stewarding staff and managing budgets; fundraising for collections care, research, and programming; planning educational outreach and interpretation; developing exhibitions; and growing permanent collections through gifts and acquisitions. Lawson has taught museum studies/arts management at the undergraduate level for 20 years.
