Museum Educator

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:
*Under general supervision, aids with the development and presentation of various educational programs. Work involves assisting with scheduling, planning, and implementation of programs to maintain and expand the mission of the Portsmouth Museums.

*Responsible for working as a team member in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of special programs designed to increase museum patronage.
*Develops, implements, and evaluates on-site and outreach educational programs and materials; assists with program research, and helps with program logistics.

*Designs, conducts, and analyzes surveys; purchases and maintains supplies and equipment; maintains educational calendar, program files and records; and accurately records all program registrations and sends confirmation letters.

*Develops and provides guided tours at the Museum; assists with training staff to conduct programs at the Museums; develops and presents outreach programs; and always maintains a safe environment for participants.

*Assists with the day-to-day requirements of the Planetarium; Responds to inquiries concerning programs and with birthday party set-up, provides orientations to groups; Works the floor and Make-n-Take room as necessary.
*Comfortable with public contact and interaction with people of various ages and cultural backgrounds.
*Skilled collaborator with proven ability to build partnerships and leverage resources for greater impact.
*Communicates effectively and professionally with visitors of all ages, museum staff and volunteers.
*Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders in professional and courteous manner, including colleagues in other departments and collaborators in the community.

*Provides program materials upkeep and lesson plan and educational information packet revisions.
*Helps schedule, organize, coordinate and run summer camps as well as teacher in – services, workshops, institutes and open houses.
*Coordinates traffic flow, guest orientation and interface of all programs, services and special activities.
*Responds to requests for information about museum facilities and assists with booking museum programs, group and birthday party reservations.
*Collaborates with museum staff to create robust calendar of public programs;
*Maintains current and accurate events schedule that is available to museum staff;
*Works with Membership Coordinator & Marketing Coordinator to implement/promote programs on social media by participating in social media strategy and implementation.

*Maintains safety, security and emergency policies and procedures; manages response to and documents any accidents.
*Assists Education Coordinator with managing education budgets.
*In the absence of the Education Coordinator, responsible for overseeing the full operation of the museum education department.
