MuseumExpert.org Announces New Board Member

An advisor to MuseumExpert.org since its inception, Barry Van Deman has just been elected to our board of directors. “I count myself lucky to spend time with a great group of people who make MuseumExpert.org what it is today and more importantly, what it is becoming,” remarks Barry. “Every organization is a community but not all build a community of inclusion and belonging. This community of devoted volunteers is creating something special, and that’s why I’m excited to serve on the board.”

Barry Van Deman is an accomplished nonprofit executive who has led organizational change efforts, strategic planning, and growth in four museums. With a lifelong passion for science and science education, Barry applied his experience and expertise as CEO, grant maker, author, consultant, teacher, board member, and volunteer. He has held executive leadership roles in museums and at the National Science Foundation, as well as in teaching and school administration, K-12 and undergraduate and graduate levels. Most recently, Barry served as President and CEO of the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, North Carolina. He has now taken on the role of Executive Director of La Nube, a new children’s museum and science center under construction in downtown El Paso, Texas, that will open in 2023.
